Trusted Partners

It's a busy day today.

This morning, I have to meet contractors at a commercial job and then meet the Remington Homes team in Dallas. Thankfully, Dee is driving, so on the way, I can have a Zoom meeting for House Partners.

While we're in Dallas, we're closing on some new building lots nearby, and then we're heading to make the final preparations for a completed home that closes Wednesday.

Later this evening, I'll be at a good friend's shop working on some preparations for getting The Adventure Truck® ready for the upcoming Baja, Mexico trip.

Whew! The sun will be setting before I know it. But I love days like this because I see most of my teammates in person.

A few weeks back, I asked Facebook who I knew who lived in Yuma, Arizona, where I needed to ship my truck ahead of the trip.

One of my business partners texted me.

"Hey man, I have a farm near Yuma; you can ship it there."

I wasn't surprised.

"Tim," as I'll call him here, is into all sorts of stuff.

My couple of small businesses and a few side hustles, by comparison, ain't squat.

"I've never been to the farm," he said. Maybe you can take some pictures for me?"

Taking pictures was a joke.

But having never seen it?

That's true.

And this isn't some piddle-diddle hobby farm. We're talking full-scale, high-production commercial farms. I'll be touring it when I get there - I hope to share some pictures.

But in that conversation with Tim, I said, "It's got to be a good feeling to own something like that you've never seen in person!"

His response?

"It's about trusting your partner's judgment and discernment…. For example, I have not seen the properties you are buying."

Folks, that's [literally] million-dollar advice right there. If you need to, reread it.

Look, we all know time is money.

Therefore, the more efficient we are with our time, the more money we can make in the same period.

I've always been fascinated with the Jeff Bezos types, making zillions of dollars every minute, 24/7/365.

But there are guys doing the same thing in principle but on a more approachable scale.

And that's a way bigger inspiration than Bezos, Jobs, Gates, and Musk put together.

Because while I can't get my head around owning something like Amazon, I can get my head around trusting my teams in the businesses I do have.

On days like today, I am super grateful that they trust me.

But I'm also super lucky.

Because I can trust them.
