The Guessing Game

You know what drives me nuts?

A buddy of mine and I were talking about it this morning, and I bet every married man will relate.

Hell, you don’t even need to be married, you just need to have a girlfriend.

Or even just a friend who’s a girl that you want to grab a bite to eat with.

It goes like this: you’re out driving around, maybe running errands, and she gets hungry.

“What do you want to eat, babe?”

“I don’t know, what do you want?”

“How about Mexican? Taqueria Los Altos is right around the corner.”

“No, I don’t want Mexican. Lori and I went to Los Amigos yesterday.”

“OK, let’s get a cheeseburger then.”

“That sounds good, where from?”

“How about Five Guys? They have good fries.”

“No, that’s too far away.”

“Well, we could run into Chilis, it’s right here.”

“No, I don’t really like their burgers.”

“OK, well where do you want to get a burger from then?”

“I don’t know, I can’t really think of anywhere. Maybe we should get pizza instead.”

“That sounds good, let’s go to NY Pizza. They have good wings, too”

“I don’t want wings.”

“That’s fine, you get pizza and I’ll get wings. It’ll be perfect.”

“But I want to share a pizza with you.”

“OK, fine, what kind of pizza?”

“Whatever kind you want is cool with me.”

“Awesome. Let’s get bacon, green olives, and sausage.”

“Ewww, gross. No.”

“OK then, tell me what you want on your pizza.”

“I’m good with whatever, just not green olives.”

“OK, how about just bacon and sausage then?”

“Don’t you think that sounds too spicy?”

“OMG. We’re halfway back home already, do you want pizza or not?”

“I don’t know. Now I’m thinking some tamales might be good.”

“Tamales? Really babe? You know tamales are Mexican, right?”

“Yeah, but they didn't have them at Los Altos - I had pollo fundido when I went with Lori.”

“OK, so Tamales then. Since we’re almost home, let’s get them at Monterey.”

“But their tamales aren’t as good as Taqueria Los Altos, can we go there instead?”

“You mean the place we were right beside twenty minutes ago when I suggested Mexican?”

“Yeah, come on, it’ll be fun.”

“No. No way I’m driving all the way back over there.”

“Please? I really want tamales.”

“Ugh. OK, fine.”

45 minutes after the whole thing started, you finally sit down to order. The waitress comes over and asks if you’re ready.

And what does your lady friend say?

Come on, you know the answer.

That’s right.

“Can you give me a few minutes, I’m not sure what I want just yet.”
