Super Epic - Super Pacific Road Trip - Day Three: Eureka! Those Are Some Big Trees!
Good morning, campers. The Oregon coast is calling, and if Julia and I are going to be on time, I've got to get the coffee made so I can coax her out of bed.
Although I was getting somewhat used to things going sideways, our luck seemed to have changed because yesterday was perfect.
We backtracked to just North of where we broke down because I wasn't leaving here without driving the Avenue of the Giants.
It did not disappoint.
I always thought people were exaggerating about these trees.
"Yeah, yeah, big trees - I get. I mean, I've seen the Tulip Poplars in the Smokies. How much bigger can they be?"
The answer is a lot bigger.
As in no comparison.
The people, it turns out, were not exaggerating at all.
We had dinner in the happening little town of Eureka on the way back home. They have a nice downtown area on the water with tons of restaurants and bars, live music everywhere, and our food was both excellent and reasonably priced. If I were ever to consider a move to California, which I won't, I'd consider Eureka.
This morning we're heading up to the Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park for a little more big tree action, then driving up the coast and cutting over to Eugene for the night.
Tomorrow's the big day - we ditch the A.R.E. camper shell that has served us so well and pick up the Super Pacific X1.
I'm excited about that.
And I hear Julia stirring.
It's time to get on the road again.
