Share Your Plans?

Today is my last full day in Maui, and I aim to make the most of it. Here shortly, I'll hook up with Wave Daddy again for a "Surf Safari."

We're heading to the island's north side, where the waves are bigger and, hopefully, there are still no tiger sharks.

For now, though, I'm thinking about all there is to do when I get home.

Near the top of the list is finishing the cold plunge so I can be more consistent in using it and not have to lug ice from the store.

On Facebook last night, in the DIY Cold Plunge Group, good 'ole No-plan Stan had a question:

"I think I've decided to go with the chest freezer option," he says, "Anyone care to share their plans and drop links for parts?"

People like this drive me up the damn wall.

Because let's be honest: Stan is not getting in the cold water.

Stan might want to get in the cold water.

Stan might know the cold water is good for him.

Hell, Stan even sought out an entire group of cold plunge enthusiasts who built their plunges.

But that's as far as he'll go.

Stan is all talk.

Were he a man of action, he wouldn't ask that question. Because the entire group is full of detailed plans on how to build what he's talking about.

Guys in the group have already answered his question hundreds of times.

But Stan's not interested in putting in the work; he only wants to talk about it.

Nowadays, you see these people everywhere.

They're always going to do something tomorrow.

Today, though, they're just getting ready.

They've joined the gym, but they don't go to the gym.

They've bought the latest and greatest running shoes but only wear them to the bar.

They've ordered the Whole 30 cookbook from Amazon, but their grocery cart is full of Ho Hos and Poptarts.

Said differently, they're lazy!

In one of our meetings earlier in the week, we discussed that 67% of Americans report being unhappy with their lives.

67%!!!!!

That's unbelievable!

I thought being unhappy was the exception, but it turns out it's the damn rule!

And I bet - if you drilled down a little further - you'd find most of those unhappy people are just like No-plan Stan.

They want to be happy.

They can see all the things they want to do.

And they talk a good game about doing them.

But when it's time for action, they don't do shit about it.

They sit around and tell you what they've decided to do. They ask questions that they already know the answer to.

They aim and aim and aim and aim. . .

But they never fire.

And then they wonder why they're unhappy.

When I look at the people I know who are most successful, most happy, and living the lives they want, they all have one thing in common.

Whatever it is, they don't just talk about it.

They just do it.
