I Mean, I Just Thought It Was a Dude. You Know, Like That Swimmer.

This post will be deemed, by many, as political.

It's not, and to minimize the knee-jerk "screw you, lefty" reactions from the folks still clutching Pearls over their pancake syrup, let's get my politics on the table and out of the way.

1 - I believe "wokeness" is a giant, steaming pile of bullshit and is totally out of hand.

2 - I believe it is absurd that we allow biological men to compete in women's sports.

But again, this post isn't about politics.

It's about shades of gray, manufactured outrage, and modern media outlets playing us for fools as they fatten their wallets.

"BIOLOGICAL MALE DEFEATS FEMALE BOXER AT OLYMPICS IN LESS THAN A MINUTE"

Reading this headline yesterday, I was pissed.

"How the #%&* are we allowing this at the OLYMPICS! This is a bunch of bullshit!"

But since we're often advised to "do our own research," I did mine.

And I discovered two things.

1 - Imane Khelif has a vagina. She was born with it.

2 - Imane Khelif has a DSD

I'll leave it to you to do your own research on the subject, but DSDs can result in female humans having Y chromosomes. (SIDE NOTE: this means all the folks screaming, "XY is man, period, end of discussion," might need to reevaluate - it's not as black and white as I thought.)

One such DSD is Swyer Syndrome, and it 100% destroys the notion that sex is as clear-cut as we would like it to be. Humans with Swyer syndrome appear to be female, have vaginas, and are capable of pregnancy.

Sounds like a woman, right?

But then again, they also have a Y chromosome.

Now what?

Swyer syndrome occurs in 1 out of 80,000 births, so based on an estimated 1.4 Billion births over the last decade, there are about 17,500 people under the age of 11 on our planet with both a vagina and a Y chromosome.

Who knows how many there are in total?

When the news dropped yesterday, the media outlets went out of their way to paint her as transgender, and people jumped right on board.

"It's an outrage!"

"This shouldn't be allowed!"

"No men in the women's boxing ring!"

"A man just beat a woman on live TV!"

"If you support this, delete me!"

I could get behind some of that, except for one pesky detail.

Khelif is neither a cis-gendered nor a transgender male.

Khelif is a woman.

She has presented as a woman her entire life. Dresses, pigtails, pink clothes, women's bathrooms - all of it - because, well, she has a vagina.

This is not a case, as I've seen it so eloquently put, of "a man who chopped his own dick off because he couldn't hack it on the men's league."

This is not a case of "a man beating a woman for our entertainment."

I shared this information with a friend of mine yesterday.

His response?

"I mean, I just thought it was dude. You know, like that swimmer."

Of course that's what he thought!

Because the media is not our friend.

The media does not care about us.

They care about our money.

And, plain and simple, we're worth a lot more when we're outraged.
